Employers See Dramatic ROI From On-Site Health Clinics
In an effort to control skyrocketing healthcare costs, many employers now provide on-site access to primary medical care.
Global consulting firms have stated that 30 percent of large companies -- those with 2,000 workers or more -- have health clinics for their employees either on-site or near the workplace. Based on current forecasts, the portion of large companies with on-site clinics will rise to 40 percent by the end of next year.
“I think it’s a modern model that is indeed proving to be cost-effective,” says Sean Sullivan, President, CEO and Co-Founder of the Institute for Health and Productivity Management, a nonprofit corporation in Scottsdale, Ariz., that works to link employee health to corporate performance. “Not only does it pick up health issues earlier, but it doesn’t require time away from work and at the same time creates a culture of caring.”
Employers across the board are also clapping their hands together in response to improvements in productivity since employees don't have to take the time from work for off-site appointments.
“On-site clinics are no longer confined to occupational medicine - treating and preventing work injuries. Today’s clinic operators are even targeting smaller employers to get them to jump on the bandwagon by offering them more targeted solutions,” says Alex Levin, Managing Director at World Research Group. Levin added that these clinics help employers create an in-house storefront for health, disease management, wellness and disability management.
Levin is the organizer of the “Onsite Employee Health Clinic Summit,” taking place February 25-27, 2009 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The summit will showcase how to forge a strategic, customized, fully-integrated, on-site employee health solution.
“Our goal is to deliver maximum value. The case studies are presented by employers who have proven the benefit of on-site health and wellness with dramatic results,” said Levin. He added that the summit is tailored to leverage the experience from the 30 percent of the employers who have had successes to help the nearly 70 percent of employers who are still evaluating on-site solutions.
The conference has an impressive faculty with speakers from Intel Corporation, IBM, Sheboygan County, McKee Foods Corporation, HealthSTAT, Inc., Glatfelter Paper, J.J. Keller and Associates, Kellogg Company, IMC HealthCare, Altria Client Services Inc., Comprehensive Health Services, Take Care Health Systems, Bucyrus International, Inc., City of Amarillo, Texas, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and Comporium.
